Sōji (pronounced soh-jee) means cleaning in Japanese.
In martial arts, Sōji is something we all do as part of our training.
When we clean the dojo, we are not just sweeping or wiping mats —
we are showing respect for the place where we learn and the people we train with.
⭐ Everyone helps
White belts, black belts, kids, adults — we all clean together.
No one is too important to stop and take care of the dojo.
⭐ It makes us stronger inside
Cleaning teaches us teamwork, responsibility, and good habits.
We learn to help without being asked.
⭐ We take pride in our dojo
A clean space helps us train better and stay safe.
If we use the dojo, we should also help take care of it!
⭐ Kids in Japan do this every day
In Japanese schools, there are no janitors.
Students clean their classrooms, hallways, and bathrooms.
This helps them learn to respect their space and be responsible for it.
✅ We leave the dojo better than we found it
✅ We show respect for our instructors and each other
✅ We work as a team
✅ We build a strong martial arts attitude
Sōji helps us grow not just as fighters —
but as kind, thoughtful, and responsible people.
We clean together.
We learn together.
We become better together.
