Two Training Areas – Lessons Offered Simultaneously

Students must book their classes ahead of time  - 2 person Minumim

At S.K.I.L. Dojo, we’re proud to offer lessons in both our Main Deck and Lower Deck training areas. This setup allows us to run multiple classes at the same time, giving students more opportunities to train and progress. Our split-level design helps us maintain small group focus while keeping a steady rhythm in the dojo—whether for youth, teens, or adults.

Both areas are fully equipped to handle a variety of disciplines, creating a strong and supportive atmosphere for all students. This flexibility allows families to train together or separately, and ensures that each program receives the dedicated space and attention it deserves.

Shogen Ryu Karate

Our Shogen Ryu Karate program preserves the authentic teachings of Okinawan martial arts as passed down through generations of masters, including Kensei Taba, Kiyomasa Maeda, Vern Tilley, and continued through Kyoju Jerry Pilon. This system emphasizes strong fundamentals, kata (forms), kumite (application), kobudo (traditional weapons), and tode (old-style hand techniques).

It is more than just kicks and punches—Shogen Ryu Karate represents a complete self-defense system that connects body, mind, and spirit through discipline, awareness, and respect. It reflects the roots of what is now known as mixed martial arts, focusing on real-world application and personal growth.

Carlson Gracie / Marcus Soares Jiu-Jitsu

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program follows the direct lineage of Carlson Gracie through Grandmaster Marcus Soares, taught at S.K.I.L. Dojo under Kyoju Jerry Pilon. This system is built on the foundation of technique, leverage, and adaptability—allowing practitioners of all sizes to defend, control, and overcome opponents through skill rather than strength.

Training under this lineage means learning a complete Jiu-Jitsu system that balances self-defense, sport, and discipline. From youth to adult programs, students develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and resilience—both on and off the mats.

Far beyond just kicks and punches, Shogen Ryu Karate/Tode Jitsu is a complete martial art—blending striking, grappling, joint control, and traditional weaponry. It is the foundation from which what we now know as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) originally evolved.

At S.K.I.L. DOJO, students learn not only effective self-defense but also the deeper principles of respect, discipline, and personal growth that define true martial arts training.

The Black Belt Team is a special leadership group for students who show strong effort, discipline, and a willingness to help others.

In this program, students learn to grow not only as martial artists, but also as responsible leaders.

Through focused training, students develop:

Confidence to stand in front of others and lead
Courage to face challenges with discipline
Respect for their instructors and fellow students
Responsibility to help younger members of the dojo

Black Belt Team members train together each week to improve their skills, assist instructors, and support the dojo community.

The program is family friendly and welcoming for students ages 5 and up, while still maintaining the structure and discipline expected in traditional martial arts training.

Students learn an important lesson along the way:

Leadership is not about being in charge.
Leadership is about setting the example.

At S.K.I.L. DOJO, the Black Belt Team prepares students for the long journey toward Black Belt and lifelong personal growth.

Rooted in the teachings of Kensei Taba, Kiyomasa Maeda, Vern Tilley, and many other great masters, our Okinawan Karate/Tode Jitsu program continues through Kyoju Pilon’s more than four decades of study and teaching.

At S.K.I.L. Dojo, we preserve and teach the traditional art of Okinawan Kobudo — the study of over 36 classical weapons, each originally derived from the tools and implements of daily Okinawan farm life. From the long Rokushaku Bo (6-foot staff) to lesser-known implements such as the Kama (sickle), Tonfa (mill handle), Sai (metal trident), and many others, our training brings history, practicality, and skill together.

Each weapon is introduced progressively, with lessons tailored to age, experience, and ability. Students learn not just how to handle the weapons safely and effectively, but also the discipline, history, and strategy behind each tool.

Our Kobudo program connects students to the roots of Okinawan self-defense, where everyday tools became powerful extensions of the body and mind. Whether learning the elegant control of the Bo or the precision of the Sai, students develop coordination, awareness, and respect for tradition — all within a safe, structured, and age-appropriate environment.

From farm tools to art forms — we teach what few even know exists.
